Chocolate Nut Tartlets
I've never made tarts before and so when I stumbled upon this recipe I thought I would give them a try. Because of her description regarding the tart crust, I decided to make it rather than buy frozen tart shells from the grocery store. I was in the mood for chocolate that day so I decided to change the middle of the tarts and followed this recipe that I found. You might want to reduce the chocolate recipe by half when make these tarts from the recipe above otherwise you will have too much filling to work with.
For making tarts for the first time I thought it was a lot easier then I previously presumed. The tart shells were easy to make and handled well. The chocolate filling was easy to make as well and worked well as a nice middle for my tarts. I made the tart shells by hand because I didn't have a food processor and it worked out well. The shells were flakey and sweet and held their shape well enough while eating. For the chocolate middle I bought a bag of mixed nuts from the bulk foods section at the grocery store and decided to add that to the chocolate mixture instead.
I also used semi-sweet chocolate instead of dark chocolate but I think any of your favorite chocolates will work well. The middles were not overly sweet and the nuts gave them great texture to go along with the chocolate. I would defintely make these again, especially the tart shell recipe and maybe try it with a different filling. This recipe is great for a baby or wedding shower, or even just a nice little house warming treat for your new neighbours. Just follow the recipe links above and enjoy!
